INEC Sets Date for Bauchi Bye-Elections on September 19

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that bye-elections will take place on September 19, 2026, to fill two vacant seats in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, specifically in Sakwa State Constituency, Zaki Local Government Area, and Disina State Constituency, Shira Local Government Area. The announcement was made by the Bauchi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Ibrahim, during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Electoral Security in Bauchi.

The notice of election will be issued on August 20, with political party primaries scheduled from August 21 to 25. Nomination forms will be available online from August 29 to September 2, with the final list of candidates published on September 8.

Political parties must submit polling agents' names by September 10, and campaigns will conclude by midnight on September 17. The vacancies arose from the death of Wanzam Zaki on June 21, 2026, and the resignation of Saleh Hodi to contest a local government chairmanship election.
