INEC announces date for supplementary by-election in Zamfara

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the date for the supplementary by-election in Zamfara State's South Constituency, scheduled for Thursday, August 21. The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mahmuda Isah, made the announcement during a stakeholder meeting in Gusau, assuring voters, political parties, and the commission's readiness for a smooth and credible poll.

The supplementary election was deemed necessary after the Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa'adu of the Federal University Gusau, declared the earlier election inconclusive due to the margin between the leading parties being less than the total number of Permanent Voter Cards collected at the polling unit. Tensions remain high between the two leading parties in Zamfara, with the APC rejecting claims by the PDP that soldiers were used to intimidate voters in the previous poll.

The APC's Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, dismissed the allegations as baseless and unfounded, emphasizing the presence of security forces to maintain.
