INEC announces rerun date for Zamfara by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a rerun election for the South Constituency in Zamfara State will take place on Thursday, August 21. The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mahmuda Isah, confirmed the date during a stakeholder meeting in Gusau, assuring voters and political parties that the commission has made all necessary preparations for a smooth and credible process.

The election was declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa'adu, due to the margin between the leading party and the total number of Permanent Voter Cards collected at the polling unit. Tensions between the two leading parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), continue as the APC rejected claims that the PDP used soldiers to intimidate voters in the earlier poll.

The APC's Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, dismissed the claims as baseless and unfounded, emphasizing the need for security forces to maintain peace.
