INEC Declares Winner of Zamfara Assembly By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Zamfara State Assembly by-election in the South Constituency. The final result, announced by the Returning Officer Professor Lawal Sa'adu, showed that the APC polled more votes than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The election was earlier declared inconclusive due to irregularities in five polling units, where voting was cancelled. The margin between the leading APC candidate and the PDP candidate was less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in the affected units, leading INEC to conduct a supplementary poll on August 21.

The supplementary election resulted in the APC emerging victorious, securing a seat in the Zamfara House of Assembly.
