INEC Denies Changes to 2027 Election Campaign Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially dismissed rumors regarding alterations to the campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections. The commission identified a viral graphic circulating on social media as false, which claimed that the end dates for political campaigns had been revised.

The misleading graphic suggested that campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections would now conclude on January 15, 2027, instead of January 14, and that governorship and state House of Assembly campaigns would end on February 5, 2027, instead of February 4. INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, clarified that the commission had not issued any separate campaign timetable and urged the public to disregard the circulating graphic.

He emphasized that all campaign timelines are already included in the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 elections, released on February 26, 2026. The official schedule indicates that presidential and National Assembly elections are set for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will occur on February 6, 2027.
