INEC to Display 2027 Election Candidates' Details

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the display of personal particulars of candidates nominated for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections for Saturday, August 29, 2026. This display will include details submitted by political parties as part of the nomination process, allowing the public to inspect candidates' particulars and raise objections if necessary.

INEC has urged compliance with the electoral timetable as preparations for the elections intensify. Additionally, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has submitted a Freedom of Information request on August 22, 2026, asking INEC to clarify whether it has established limits on political donations ahead of the elections.

SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, emphasized the need for transparency in political financing and requested information on monitoring systems for political contributions. SERAP expressed concerns about the lack of compliance by political parties in disclosing campaign contributions and the systemic issues surrounding political financing in Nigeria.
