INEC Denies Revised Campaign Timetable for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted reports circulating on social media that it revised the campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections. A graphic claimed that the end dates for campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections would change from January 14, 2027, to January 15, and for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections from February 4, 2027, to February 5.

INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, stated that the commission did not issue any separate campaign timetable and described the graphic as fake. He emphasized that all official campaign timelines are included in the revised timetable released on February 26, 2026, which sets the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and the governorship and state assembly elections for February 6, 2027.

Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, and end on January 14, 2027, while those for the governorship and state assembly elections will begin on September 9, 2026, and close on February 4, 2027.
