INEC Promises Credible Elections for 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday assured Nigerians of credible elections in 2027, having addressed the technical challenges faced during the 2023 general election. Abdullahi Zuru, INEC National Commissioner, represented Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan at a Policy Roundtable Discussion on Electronic Transmission of Results organized by Yiaga Africa in Abuja. Zuru stated that INEC has learned from the 2023 elections' shortcomings and improved its election technology deployment.

He acknowledged the technical difficulties experienced in uploading presidential election results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the 2023 polls but emphasized that subsequent elections have shown significant improvements. Zuru reiterated INEC's commitment to ensuring that the 2027 elections will be free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent, assuring that every valid vote will count.

He also addressed concerns about technical glitches and hacking, stating that the commission has moved beyond those challenges and has successfully conducted several elections since then.
