INEC Ready for Ekiti Governorship Election After Mock Test

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, confirmed its readiness for the governorship election in Ekiti State scheduled for June 20. This announcement followed a mock accreditation exercise conducted on a Saturday, which aimed to assess the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The mock exercise took place in selected local government areas, including Ado and Iker Ekiti, and was designed to test the efficiency of the BVAS machines deployed for the election. During the exercise, it was observed that the fingerprint and facial authentication processes took an average of five to seven seconds per voter.

Amupitan emphasized the importance of having backup devices and technical support teams in place to address any potential malfunctions. He assured that no election results would be uploaded without full verification, especially in areas lacking network coverage.

The logistics for the election were confirmed to ensure that polling units would open simultaneously at 8:30 AM across 2,445 units, with security agencies engaged to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
