INEC Declares Prison Inmate, Labour Party’s Bright Ngene Winner of Enugu Rerun Election

Bright Ngene, a prison inmate and Labour Party candidate, has been declared the winner of the Enugu South 1 State Constituency rerun election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Ngene, a legal practitioner serving a jail term at the Enugu Correctional Centre, emerged victorious, putting an end to the controversy surrounding the rerun election.

The initial chaos and disruptions during the election led to its suspension and rescheduling. INEC confirmed that the poll was conducted peacefully in Enugu and Kano States, where reruns were ordered.

The declaration of Ngene as the winner has sparked political debate, considering his current incarceration. The Labour Party celebrated the victory, with INEC spokesman Rex Achumie confirming Ngene's election as the duly elected representative of the constituency.
