INEC Excludes Labour Party Candidates from FCT Poll Amid Legal Dispute

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has excluded Labour Party (LP) candidates from the upcoming FCT Poll on February 21, 2026, citing a lack of valid court orders compelling them to do so. This decision stems from a prolonged internal leadership dispute within the Labour Party, particularly related to the tenure of Julius Abur.

Despite court judgments, factional challenges, and multiple lawsuits seeking access codes for the FCT Area Council election, INEC has maintained its stance. The exclusion of LP candidates has been a result of conflicting court orders and factional issues within the party.
