INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline to August 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their lists of candidates for the 2027 governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections. The original deadline was set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, but has now been moved to Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

This decision was communicated in a statement issued on Saturday, signed by Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC's Information and Voter Education Committee. The extension was granted in response to appeals from political parties seeking additional time to complete their submissions through the dedicated online portal.

INEC confirmed that the submission window, as per the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the General Election, has been officially adjusted to reflect this new deadline.
