INEC Extends Candidate Nomination Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit their lists of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections from Saturday, August 8, to Tuesday, August 11, 2023. This extension provides political parties with three additional days to complete the nomination process.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, announced the extension in a statement issued in Abuja, citing appeals from political parties for more time to upload their candidates’ nominations on INEC’s portal. The original deadline was part of the commission’s revised timetable for the 2027 general elections.

Additionally, INEC reminded voters that the deadline for printing downloadable copies of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would expire at midnight on Sunday, August 9. This deadline is crucial for compiling data on PVCs ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, which follows previous PVC collection exercises.
