INEC Extends Voter Registration to July 24, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise until July 24, 2026. This decision follows a review of feedback received from stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations.

INEC Chairman Mohammed Kudu Haruna stated that the extension is intended to provide every eligible Nigerian a fair opportunity to register as a voter. Additionally, INEC has launched an online self-service portal that allows eligible Nigerians to initiate the voter registration process, including biometric capture, using personal devices without needing to visit INEC offices physically.

The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is scheduled to commence on August 18, 2025, and is expected to be the final major voter registration effort before the 2027 general elections. INEC emphasizes its commitment to ensuring credible and inclusive access to the voter registration process through advanced technology.
