INEC Schedules By-Elections for June 20, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that by-elections will take place on June 20, 2026, to fill five vacant National Assembly seats in Nigeria. The affected constituencies include Nasarawa North Senatorial District in Nasarawa State, Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, Ondo South Senatorial District in Ondo State, Enugu North Senatorial District in Enugu State, and Rivers South-East Senatorial District in Rivers State.

The vacancies arose due to the death of Senator Godiya Akwashika, which created a political vacuum in Nasarawa North, and the death of Senator Okei Ezea in Enugu North. Additionally, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim resigned from the Ondo South seat following his appointment as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Senator Barinada Mpigi's death led to the vacancy in Rivers South-East.

The Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency vacancy was created by the death of Hon. Muhammad Danjuma Hassan.
