INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline to August 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the submission of candidates for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections for the 2027 general elections to August 11. Mr Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information Voter Education Committee, made this announcement in Abuja, stating that the original deadline was set for August 8.

The extension was granted in response to appeals from political parties seeking more time to finalize their nominations. Additionally, Haruna informed voters who applied for replacement of lost, damaged, or defaced permanent voter cards (PVCs) that the deadline to print downloadable copies would expire by midnight on August 9.

This is to facilitate the compilation of data for the upcoming Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15. He also noted that the collection of PVCs in Osun had been extended due to complaints about large crowds at collection centers.
