INEC Accused of Plotting Crisis in SDP by Chairman Gomb

Sadiq Gomb, the current Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), alleged on Thursday, May 7, that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is plotting to create a crisis within the party. During a press briefing at the party's national secretariat, Gomb stated that INEC's interference aims to instigate a leadership crisis within the SDP amid ongoing disputes.

The crisis has been exacerbated by allegations involving the party's former national chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, who reportedly stormed the party secretariat with political thugs, prompting security intervention. Gomb defended the suspension and potential expulsion of officials loyal to Gabam, asserting that these actions were in line with the party's constitution.

He expressed displeasure at INEC's unnecessary involvement in the party's internal affairs, particularly after the commission invited SDP leaders to a meeting to resolve the disputes, despite recognizing the party's constitutional right to manage its affairs without external interference. Gomb affirmed that preparations for the SDP convention in Bauchi are ongoing.
