SDP Leadership Determined Internally, Not by INEC Portal

Prof. Sadiq Gomb, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asserted that the leadership of the party is determined by its internal mechanisms rather than the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Gomb responded to inquiries about Mr. Shehu Gabam's name appearing on the INEC portal, clarifying that Gabam was expelled from the party along with three other officials following a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed the party's exclusive jurisdiction over leadership and disciplinary issues.

Gomb emphasized that the SDP's National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC) are the principal bodies responsible for party administration. He noted that the NWC had reduced its membership from 15 to 11 due to disciplinary actions against four members.

Gomb expressed confidence in the current leadership and urged INEC to respect the internal affairs of political parties. He also mentioned that the SDP remains open to reconciling with expelled members who wish to return.
