INEC records 69,376 online voter pre-registrations in 7 hours

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported a significant response to its online voter pre-registration portal, with 69,376 registrations recorded within just 7 hours of going live. INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, revealed that the portal saw a high level of interest, with 50% male and 50% female registrations, and a significant number of young people aged 18-35 participating.

The portal will remain active 24/7, allowing eligible citizens to register at their convenience. Physical registration will also be available at INEC offices nationwide starting August 25, 2025.

INEC emphasized that double or multiple registrations are illegal, and updates on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will be provided weekly, including breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.
