INEC Reports Over 3 Million New Voter Registrations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that a total of 3,441,121 voters have completed their registration during the second phase of the ongoing voter registration exercise, as of the week 13 update released on Wednesday in Abuja. This figure includes 2,068,384 citizens who registered online and 1,372,737 who opted for physical registration at various centers nationwide.

Jigawa State leads with 201,047 registrations, representing 5.84% of the total, followed by Lagos with 181,095 and Kano with 177,681. Youths aged 18-34 account for 2,354,768, or 68.43%, of the new registrants.

In terms of gender distribution, females represent 55.86% with 1,922,143 registrations, while males account for 44.14% with 1,518,978. Students make up the largest single block of new voters at 1,235,931, or 35.92%.

Additionally, 48,330 new registrants are persons with disabilities. The commission emphasized that the registration remains suspended in the Federal Capital Territory due to compliance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, following the area council elections held on February 21.
