INEC Adjusts Osun Governorship Election Campaign Dates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced a shift in the campaign period for the upcoming Osun State governorship election, moving the election date from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026. This change was disclosed by Mohan Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the commission, in a public statement released on Thursday.

The adjustment was deemed necessary following a review of the electoral schedule in relation to the 2027 general elections. Political parties and candidates are expected to conclude their campaigns by midnight on August 13, 2026, in compliance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that campaign activities must cease at least 24 hours before the election day.

INEC has urged all stakeholders to adhere to the new timeline to avoid any disruptions in the electoral process and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible elections in Osun State.
