INEC Promises Credible Election in Osun State on August 15

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Osun State of a credible governorship election set for August 15. Mr.

Oluwatoyin Babalola, representing the commission, addressed protests in Osogbo concerning the transfer of former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Mutiu Agbok, which protesters alleged could lead to electoral manipulation.

Babalola, alongside Mr. Niyi Fayanju and Mr.

Rufu Ariyo, emphasized that the commission is committed to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process. He stated that the transfer of staff is within the prerogative of the commission and adheres to civil service rules, dismissing claims of political motivation behind the transfer.

The commission has put measures in place to ensure that every vote counts, addressing residents' fears about the integrity of the electoral process. Protesters, including market women and civil society groups, submitted a petition to INEC officials, urging the commission to conduct the elections transparently and without bias towards any political party.
