INEC Postpones Osun Governorship Election to August 15

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a shift in the date for the Osun governorship election, moving it from August 8 to August 15, 2026. This decision was communicated by the INEC Chairman, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, during a statement regarding the adjustment of the campaign timeline.

The new timeline mandates that political parties must conclude their campaigns by midnight on August 13, 2026, which is 24 hours prior to the election date, in accordance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026. Haruna emphasized the importance of compliance with the revised timeline and urged all stakeholders, including political parties and candidates, to strictly adhere to these new deadlines.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting credible elections and ensuring a transparent electoral process in Nigeria.
