INEC Commences Ward-Level PVC Distribution in FCT Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the distribution of 128,396 permanent voter cards (PVCs) at the ward level across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in preparation for the 2026 area council elections scheduled for February 21. The Resident Electoral Commissioner for FCT, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idri, disclosed during a media briefing at the INEC FCT conference hall in Abuja that the PVC collection exercise will take place from January 22 to January 26, 2026, between 9 am and 3 pm daily.

The distribution will cover 62 registration areas in wards across the six area councils of the FCT. INEC emphasized that the PVCs remain valid documents for voter accreditation as stipulated in the Electoral Act.

The voter registration exercise in the FCT was suspended on October 12, 2025, after 106,855 new voters were registered following a mandatory deduplication exercise. The total number of registered voters in the FCT now stands at 1,680,315, with 1,570,307 recorded during the 2023 general elections.
