INEC Suspends Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially suspended its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise, which was scheduled to commence on April 13, 2026. This decision was communicated in a letter dated April 4, 2026, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran.

The Resident Electoral Commission (REC) has been instructed to halt all public announcements related to the voter revalidation exercise while continuing essential preparations, including personnel readiness and the development of voter enrollment devices. INEC has expressed regret for any inconvenience this change may cause and reassured the public of its commitment to a transparent and orderly preparation for the upcoming electoral processes.

Additionally, a previously scheduled in-person meeting for the REC on April 9, 2026, will now be conducted virtually via Zoom, with details to be provided later. The suspension of the exercise is pending further directives from INEC.
