INEC Investigates Unauthorized Names on NDC Candidate List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated an investigation into the presence of controversial names on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates' list for the 2027 elections. The NDC asserts that it did not submit or authorize the inclusion of these individuals, which appeared on INEC's published list for various House of Assembly constituencies in Anambra State.

INEC, however, plans to rely on its electronic records to trace the origins of these entries. Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, stated that the commission's candidate nomination system maintains records that can clarify the history and source of any disputed entries.

NDC National Chairman Moses Zuwoghe expressed that the situation is unacceptable and called for an immediate investigation, emphasizing that the party did not upload the names in question. The NDC identified specific constituencies where unauthorized names were listed and claimed similar issues have arisen in Benue and Imo states.

The matter is particularly sensitive in Anambra due to its political significance for the NDC ahead of the elections.
