INEC to Deploy 1.4 Million NYSC Members for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced its intention to deploy over 1.4 million National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as ad hoc staff for the upcoming 2027 general elections in Nigeria. This decision was disclosed during a courtesy visit by INEC Chairman, Yakubu Gowon, to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Amupitan noted the essential role of corps members in the electoral process, particularly in presidential and legislative elections.

For the 2027 elections, INEC requires 707,384 corps members for the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and the same number for the governorship and state house assembly elections set for February 6, 2027. INEC previously deployed 1.2 million ad hoc staff during the 2023 general elections.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the NYSC Director General, commended the partnership with INEC and emphasized the need for improved welfare and support for corps members during their electoral duties.
