INEC to Mobilize 1.4M Corps Members for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced its intention to mobilize 1.4 million National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for the upcoming 2027 General Election. This information was disclosed by INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafi'u, in Abuja. Amupitan stated that corps members are essential for conducting elections in Nigeria, highlighting their significant contribution during the 2023 elections, where approximately 1.2 million ad hoc staff were deployed, with nearly 850,000 being NYSC members.

For the 2027 elections, INEC requires 707,384 corps members for the presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and additional staff for governorship and state assembly elections on February 6, 2027. Amupitan noted that corps members account for nearly 90% of registered area officers and play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
