UEFA Opposes Infantino's World Cup Privatization Plan

Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, is under scrutiny for attempting to privatize World Cup commercial rights through a new subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise. This plan, which aims to sell a 20-30 percent stake in World Cup rights to private investors led by Joshua Kushner, was announced without consulting regional bodies.

Infantino projected that this initiative could raise at least $20 billion. UEFA, representing 55 of FIFA's 211 members, rejected the proposal, deeming it unacceptable and a potential threat to the integrity of football.

UEFA emphasized that the governance of football should not be treated as a tradable asset and sent a preservation letter to FIFA to maintain all evidence related to the matter, indicating the possibility of legal action. The UEFA leadership also stated that they would boycott FIFA if the privatization plan were to move forward.
