Oyo Governor Makinde Approves N10,000 Allowance for Workers

On Monday, March 1, 2023, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State announced the approval of a monthly transport support allowance of N10,000 for civil servants in the state. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on workers resulting from the significant rise in petroleum prices, which have sharply increased from N860 to between N1,320 and N1,500 per liter due to ongoing energy crises and geopolitical tensions.

The allowance will be disbursed for a period of three months, starting in March, and is part of the state government's strategy to address economic challenges affecting worker welfare. The governor detailed that the disbursement guidelines would be communicated through appropriate government channels.

This measure is intended to support civil servants in sustaining efficient service delivery across various ministries, departments, and agencies amid rising transport fares and food prices.
