Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Advocates for State Police Funding

Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, asserted that infrastructure funding from the federal government allows states to finance their police forces effectively. Speaking on a television program, he dismissed concerns regarding the state's resources for establishing a decentralized police force, arguing that funding should not be an excuse for delays.

Sani emphasized that major infrastructure projects supported by the federal government enable states to allocate resources for security, which is crucial for protecting lives and properties. He highlighted the inadequacy of local vigilante groups, which, despite having 200 members, were overpowered by armed bandits during an attack in Kuriga, Kaduna State.

Sani proposed a state police framework that allows each state to determine its personnel based on local realities, rejecting a fixed number. He criticized the notion of offering second chances to violent criminal groups, labeling them as terrorists.

Sani noted improvements in security conditions under the current administration, contrasting past challenges in accessing areas like Birnin Gwari.
