Max Whitlock Withdraws from 2026 Commonwealth Games

Max Whitlock, a three-time Olympic gold medallist, has officially withdrawn from the 2026 Commonwealth Games due to a hand injury he sustained while training. The 33-year-old gymnast expressed incredible disappointment over his decision, stating that he had no choice but to pull out of the games, which are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2.

Whitlock, who aims to compete in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, reflected on his career feeling unfinished after missing out on medals at the Paris Games two years prior. He acknowledged the significant effort he has put into preparing for the Commonwealth Games and the importance of contributing to Team England.

Despite his setback, Whitlock is focused on recovering properly and returning to the sport stronger. He previously took part in the British Gymnastics Championship in Liverpool in March, where he tweaked his shoulder and did not advance in the pommel horse final.
