Christantus Uche, a midfielder for Getafe, underwent successful surgery following a serious knee injury sustained during a pre-season friendly on August 6, caused by a reckless tackle from Monaco’s Christian Mawissa. The injury resulted in multiple tears to the ligaments and meniscus in his right knee, forcing him to be stretchered off the pitch.

Uche is now ruled out for the entire season, missing the Super Eagles’ qualifying matches and potentially the tournament finals. He expressed gratitude towards his surgeon and Getafe for their support during his recovery.

Meanwhile, Valencia striker Sadiq Umar suffered a hamstring injury after scoring in a match against Deportivo de La Coruña, and will undergo a tailored treatment program, with no firm return date provided. Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru sustained a thigh tear during a Serie A match against Bologna and is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks, jeopardizing his starting position and Super Eagles involvement.
