Innoson Urges Government to Review EV Component Tariffs

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM) has called for the Federal Government's intervention regarding the tariff regime on electric vehicle (EV) components, stating that the current structure could undermine local production and deter investment in Nigeria's electric mobility sector. This appeal was made during a visit by a delegation from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), led by Dr. Adaora Chukwudozie, to IVM's manufacturing facility.

The delegation included Oweh Mba-Sam, Managing Director of MAN Power Development Company Limited, and representatives from Empower New Energy and Paras Energy & Natural Resources Development Limited. Innoson expressed concerns that while concessions exist for importing finished EVs, local manufacturers face import duties on essential components, raising production costs.

The company urged a review of the tariff structure to support local manufacturing. Dr. Chukwudozie emphasized the need for government engagement with local manufacturers to promote job creation and indigenous technology development as Nigeria transitions to electric mobility.
