Northern Governors Support State Police to Tackle Insecurity

Nineteen northern governors, led by Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, convened in Abuja to discuss security challenges facing the region. They expressed strong support for the establishment of state police and emphasized the importance of unified efforts to combat insecurity.

The governors acknowledged that the region's security issues are deeply intertwined with socio-economic factors such as illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment. They called for a multi-billion naira regional security fund to address these challenges effectively.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance security measures. The governors also highlighted the need for local intelligence-driven responses to modern security threats and applauded ongoing efforts to strengthen and restructure security agencies.

They emphasized that military action alone cannot resolve the region's issues and called for significant investments in education and human capital development.
