Governors Propose State Police to Combat Insecurity

The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has formally submitted a proposal for the establishment of state police to the National Assembly, amid escalating insecurity across the country. This initiative was disclosed by the NGF chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, during a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.

The proposal reflects a collective stance among state governors to address Nigeria's security challenges and is part of broader efforts to find lasting solutions. The document outlines a framework for the legal and operational structure of state police, which has been a topic of ongoing discussions among various security stakeholders.

The governors emphasized the need for stronger coordination with federal security agencies to tackle terrorism, banditry, and violent crime affecting different regions. The meeting included 25 governors, who expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration with security forces to improve the safety and quality of life for citizens.
