CAN Urges Northern Communities to Self-Defend During Easter

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on northern communities to adopt proactive measures to safeguard themselves during the Easter celebrations amid rising insecurity in the region. This call comes in light of recent attacks that reportedly left at least 28 people dead in Southern Kaduna.

The chairman of CAN's northern chapter emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and organization among community members, stating that they should no longer succumb to fear and should be prepared to defend themselves against attackers. He criticized the government for its perceived inaction and negligence regarding the security situation, particularly during religious festivals when large gatherings are expected.

The chairman urged security agencies to enhance their efforts to protect lives and property during these critical times, as communities have faced persistent threats since 2009, particularly during Easter and Christmas celebrations.
