Nigerian CDS Orders Special Forces Deployment to Kwara and Niger States Amid Rising Insecurity

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has directed the deployment of special forces to Kwara and Niger states in response to the escalating insecurity in the North Central region of Nigeria. The CDS, Oluyede, made this announcement during the presentation of the 2025 budget appraisal for the defense armed forces and the 2026 budget proposal to the House of Representatives Committee on Defence.

The deployment of special forces is aimed at intensifying military operations to tackle the rising insecurity in the region. Oluyede highlighted the need for coordinated operations in the face of persistent insecurity in parts of the North West and North Central regions.

The CDS emphasized the importance of strengthening security institutions like the Nigerian Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to maintain peace and security. Additionally, the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, stressed the necessity of comprehensive institutional reforms and improved inter-agency collaboration to enhance national security.
