Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Deploys Special Forces to Kwara and Niger States Amid Insecurity Concerns

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in Nigeria, Oluyed, revealed plans to deploy special forces to Kwara and Niger states to combat insecurity during the 2025 budget appraisal. The House Committee on Defence urged urgent measures to bolster the Nigerian Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to consolidate gains made against insurgencies, banditry, and criminal elements.

Despite improvements in the North East, insecurity persists in the North West and North Central regions. The CDS highlighted the challenges faced by the armed forces due to manpower limitations and constant troop movements across multiple operational theaters.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson, emphasized the need for stronger institutions, reforms, and inter-agency coordination to address security challenges effectively.

He stressed the importance of adequate budgetary allocations and implementation to enhance national stability and security.
