Kwara State Addresses Security Threat from Okada Riders

The Kwara State Government, represented by Commissioner for Transport Aliyu Korasabi, has raised alarms regarding the increasing influx of unidentified commercial motorcyclists, which poses a significant security threat. During an emergency security stakeholders meeting held in Ilorin, Korasabi emphasized the importance of a residents' registration exercise to capture data on commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists.

This initiative aims to help security agencies differentiate between legitimate transport workers and criminal elements who may disguise themselves as riders. The exercise is part of a broader strategy to enhance security architecture and improve law enforcement effectiveness across the state.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq acknowledged the economic realities of motorcyclist transport but urged compliance with government directives to protect lives and property. Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters Aliyu Muyideen praised the government's commitment to tackling security challenges.

The meeting also discussed stricter enforcement of existing restrictions on motorcycle operations beyond 9 PM to reduce criminal activities.
