Lawmaker Calls for Military Base in Sokoto Amid Attacks

Ibrahim, the Deputy Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, has urged the federal government to establish a permanent military base in Mallammawar Yari after a series of bandit attacks left residents living in fear. He highlighted the strategic location of Mallammawar Yari, situated in Kware Local Government Area near the boundary with Rabah Local Government Area, which has seen a rise in bandit activity.

Ibrahim noted that despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace in Sokoto State, the difficult terrain allows criminal groups to exploit the area for attacks and retreats. He argued that a permanent military presence would serve as a strong deterrent to criminal activities and improve the ability of security forces to respond quickly to emerging threats.

Ibrahim commended the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies in combating banditry but stressed the need for additional security infrastructure and personnel to consolidate progress in the fight against banditry. He appealed for community cooperation with security agencies to provide credible information to track criminal elements in the area.
