Abia State Bans Commercial Motorcycles in Urban Areas

The Abia State Government, led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has announced a ban on commercial motorcycle operations, commonly referred to as "okada," within the metropolitan areas of Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia. This decision, effective from June 22, 2026, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, enhance public safety, improve traffic management, and promote an organized transport system across the state.

The state government has mandated relevant security agencies to ensure strict compliance with this directive. Individuals found violating the order will face arrest, and the motorcycles involved will be confiscated in accordance with the law.
