Over 300,000 Displaced in Niger State Due to Insecurity

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State reported that over 300,000 residents have been displaced across 10 local government areas due to ongoing insecurity. During a recent address, he highlighted the need for humanitarian support from the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Bago assured residents that the state government is collaborating with federal security agencies to restore peace and facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their communities. He also mentioned the dissatisfaction among residents regarding power supply from the national grid and suggested a shift to solar energy, revealing that 180 communities in the state have already exited the national grid to adopt solar power systems.

Furthermore, Bago addressed the deteriorating water infrastructure, stating that the state spends N100 million monthly on electricity for water pumping and is initiating projects to drill boreholes in various wards to alleviate water shortages.
