Over 300,000 Displaced in Niger State Due to Banditry

Governor Bago of Niger State reported that over 300,000 individuals have been displaced due to ongoing banditry and frequent attacks by armed groups. These attacks have created a climate of fear, leading families to abandon their farmland and disrupting agricultural production.

The governor spoke to journalists on a Saturday in Minna, highlighting the continuous humanitarian challenges faced by the state. He noted that 10 local government areas are experiencing insecurity, and efforts are underway to compile accurate data on the displaced persons.

In a recent incident, at least 15 farmers were killed in three separate attacks in the Borgu Local Government Area, which is believed to harbor armed groups. The Niger State Police Command confirmed these attacks, which included looting and violence.

The state administration is collaborating with federal security agencies to restore peace and enable displaced residents to return home safely.
