Tinubu Holds Security Meeting Amid Rising Insecurity

On Monday afternoon, President Bola Tinubu met with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and other service chiefs, including Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Vice Admiral Idi Abba, and Air Marshal Sundai Anel, along with the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, and heads of intelligence agencies at the State House in Abuja. This emergency meeting was convened in response to growing concerns about the country's security situation, particularly following a Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Yobe State that reportedly killed 100 civilians. The airstrike occurred on Saturday at the Jilli market, which was targeted due to suspected Boko Haram activity. The President defended the operation, stating that the location had become a logistical hub for insurgents. The meeting also took place against the backdrop of a travel advisory issued by the U.S. Department of State, which classified 23 of Nigeria's 36 states at the highest risk level due to ongoing violence from insurgents and banditry.
