Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs Amid Rising Violence Concerns

On Monday afternoon, President Bola Tinubu convened a crucial meeting at the State House in Abuja with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and other top military and security officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.

Waidi Shaibu, and the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu. This meeting was prompted by growing concerns regarding Nigeria's security situation, especially after a Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Yobe State that reportedly killed 100 civilians at the Jilli Market, which was believed to be a target for Boko Haram militants.

The air force confirmed the operation aimed at identified terrorist locations but did not acknowledge civilian casualties. The meeting also took place against the backdrop of a travel advisory issued by the U.S.

State Department, which classified 23 of Nigeria's 36 states at the highest risk level due to ongoing violence from insurgents and bandits. The Nigerian government dismissed the advisory as routine precautionary measures.
