Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC After 125 Days

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 31, 2023, after only 125 days of membership. In her resignation letter addressed to Ogun State APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi, she cited persistent disrespect and maltreatment within the party.

Iyabo joined the APC on January 27, 2023, and had previously lost the APC governorship ticket. She was a former senator representing Ogun Central from 2007 to 2011 and has a notable career as an epidemiologist and former Ogun State Commissioner for Health.

Despite her ambitions, she stated she was not interested in the deputy governor position or ministerial appointments. Iyabo's father, Olusegun Obasanjo, has been a critical figure in Nigerian politics, and his influence was noted during her political maneuvers.

Following her resignation, she congratulated the APC's chosen candidate, Solomon Adeola, on April 13, 2023, and suspended her gubernatorial aspirations for the time being.
