Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC Over Disrespect Claims

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as of May 31. In her resignation letter addressed to Ogun State APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, she cited repeated disrespect and unfair treatment from the party leadership.

This decision follows her withdrawal from the race for the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections. Iyabo expressed her dissatisfaction with the consensus arrangement that resulted in Senator Solomon Adeola being named the APC governorship candidate.

Although she initially accepted the consensus process, she claimed she was not consulted on the final decision and alleged intimidation during the candidate unveiling. Despite her disappointment, she publicly congratulated Adeola on his emergence as the consensus candidate.

Iyabo Obasanjo had re-entered politics earlier in the year by joining the APC and had signaled her intent to contest the 2027 governorship elections.
