Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC Over Disrespect Issues

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced her resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 31. In her resignation letter addressed to Ogun State APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, she expressed her discontent with the party's leadership, citing persistent disrespect and unfair treatment.

Obasanjo had previously contested for the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State but felt sidelined during the consensus process that led to Senator Solomon Adeola being named the party's candidate. Despite pledging to abide by the consensus arrangement, she was neither consulted nor involved in the process.

Obasanjo noted that her treatment reflected a broader pattern of disregard for her contributions to the party. She publicly congratulated Adeola upon his emergence as the candidate but expressed disappointment over the lack of response to her requests for a meeting to discuss support.

Obasanjo had re-entered active politics earlier in the year and registered as an APC member in her local ward.
