Intelligence Community Seeks Increased Funding for Security

During a budget defense session at the House of Representatives Committee on National Security Intelligence, Moham Sanusi, the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Office at the National Security Advisory, appealed for supplementary funding to enhance national security efforts against terrorism and banditry. Sanusi stressed that no nation can grow without adequate security and highlighted the need for increased funding to address critical areas such as cybersecurity and infrastructure.

He noted that the current budget constraints hinder the intelligence community's effectiveness. Ahmad Satomi, the Chairman of the House Committee on National Security Intelligence, described the allocation for the intelligence subsector as abysmal, with a total of N664,119,740 earmarked for personnel, overhead, and capital expenditures in 2026.

Satomi urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize funding for the intelligence sector, emphasizing that oversight should not be perceived as antagonistic but rather as a means to ensure transparency and accountability.
